The Wilderness of Manitoba to Workshop New Album During Toronto Residency

Toronto-based indie folk outfit the Wilderness of Manitoba have revealed plans for a month-long hometown residency at the city's Dakota Tavern that — best of all — will bring the band one step closer to finishing a new album.

The group will be heading into the studio to record their fifth full-length in January with Leon Taheny (Dilly Dally, Owen Pallett) at Union Sound. Additional sessions will take place at vocalist Will Whitwham's own Delaware House studio, and the resulting record will mark the follow-up to 2014's Between Colours.

Kicking off on December 2 (with ensuing shows on December 9, 16 and 23), the Dakota residency will provide the band with an opportunity to workshop the new tracks before they get laid to tape. The group's live lineup will include Whitwham, Raven Shields, Tavo Diez De Bonilla and Mike Brushey.

Over the course of the month, Eamon McGrath, Jose Contreras, Brian Borcherdt and Lake Forest will also perform guest sets.

"We've worked really hard over the past six years to earn the freedom to do what we want creatively," said Whitwham in a statement. "While our last album was Between Colours, the next album aims to commit to one. We've always been a band that has thrived on change and originality. The residency at the Dakota Tavern will give us a chance to paint in public so to speak."

If you can't wait until next month to get a preview of the new material, the band have shared a stripped-down rendition of a song called "Nothing's Ever Said," which you can hear in the player below.
