Published Aug 19, 2008As the Wilco-obsessed may know, Jeff Tweedy and company have lately been debuting a few new tracks on stage: the slow-burner "One Wing and the jammier "Sunny Feeling." Well, now Tweedy has leaked word that those tracks and a bunch more will be making their way onto album number seven, which he told Albany, NY radio station WAMC fans could expect by spring 2009.
As Billboard reported, Tweedy told WAMC the follow-up to 2007s Sky Blue Sky will "allow ourselves a little bit more leeway, in terms of sculpting the sound in the studio and doing overdubs and using the studio as another instrument. Last time around, it was more of a document."
The Wilco singer went on to say he isnt really feeling any of Wilcos previous six albums these days and in fact "kinda hate[s] them because "none of them are a statement that I would be comfortable making right now at this point in my life. They all served their purpose, and in that respect I'm proud of all of them.
"But as something that feels artistically in keeping with who I am today, I think that they are inevitably going to fall short of that, as time goes on. I mean, they just don't continue to mean the same things to me, and a new record is kind of where it's at."
As we previously reported, Wilco kicked off their short string of tour dates with Sub Pop harmonizers Fleet Foxes last night, and Tweedy will be going over to Spain for a few solo dates. On his return, Wilco are to re-enter the studio to start recording LP No. 7.
