Wilco to Begin Recording New Album in January

When they're not fending off the haters or planning Olympic events, Chicago heroes Wilco churn out album after album of quality country-tinged rock. And with the touring cycle for their recent Wilco (The Album) eventually slowing down, the band have announced plans to begin work on LP number eight.

In an interview with the National Post [via TwentyFourBit], bassist John Stirratt said recording for the next Wilco album will begin as soon as January. "We have a big session in January and [sic] start on the new record," he explained. "We're trying to get on the ball as fast as we can because the touring has been pretty much non-stop."

While their Canadian touring commitments mean they'll be having a busy spring of 2010, Stirratt suggested that they'll still get their work in the studio done. "We all have families, and we have to make the time really count in the studio," he said. "We work a lot more efficiently now. I imagine it would happen faster, in the way Wilco (The Album) did."

If the recording session is taking place in January, that means there's a slim chance that the band will unveil some new material on their Canadian tour, which is slated for February and March.
