Published Jun 18, 2009As Wilco fans may already know, Jeff Tweedy & Co. teamed up with Feist to do cover of Woody Guthrie's "The Jolly Banker" a little while back. They offered an MP3 of the track on Wilco's website and suggested that fans donated a bit of cash to the Woody Guthrie Foundation and Archives in return for the cover. Well, even though downloaders could also grab the song for free, it turns out that the little campaign has raised $10,000 to date for the Guthrie archives.
"Wilco's decision to make it available online to raise some bucks for the Archives - and raise the bucks they have! - came as a total heart-warming surprise," Guthrie's daughter Nora posted on Wilco's site [via TwentyFourBit]. "In one fell download swoop, Wilco wiped the smirk off that Jolly Banker's face and put the biggest smile on mine."
Now, that's pretty darn sweet, isn't it?
