After a three-year break since 2005’s influential Elephant Eyelash, Yoni Wolf and company are back with Alopecia, the third proper Why? full-length. Picking up where Eyelash left off, Alopecia continues to blur the genre lines as Yoni switches between rapping and singing, between boom-bap beats and lush indie rock. "The Vowels Pt. 2” demonstrates this aptly with its layers of clicking beats and country guitars, while "These Few Presidents” goes straight for indie pop territory with its nautical keys and "Gnashville” builds more slowly. By building a solid backbone for Yoni’s complex lyrics without compromising musical innovation, Alopecia is the best Why? record yet.
