Published Feb 14, 2011Arcade Fire may have scored a No. 1 smash with 2010 album The Suburbs, but apparently many pop music fans still don't know who the Montreal band are. Following the group's surprising Grammy Awards victory for Album of the Year on Sunday (February 13), many Twitter users expressed outrage that a supposedly "unknown" band could win such an award.
Some of the hilarious complaints are collected on the new blog Who Is Arcade Fire??!!? The Tumblr is made up entirely of quotes from Twitter, and some of the doozies include "Arcade fire won album of the year?!!??!!???!! Never even heard of these fuggs!" and "Arcade Fire. WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU!?!?!? GTFO! The other albums shit on yours."
Even some celebrities got in on the action, as Rosie O'Donnell tweeted "album of the year ? ummm never heard of them ever." This apparently stirred up the ire of some of her fans, as she later wrote, "wow shit boppers!!!! CHILL -- i downloaded them tonight -- i just said i never heard of them and its true." We're guessing that Rosie isn't the only baffled Grammy viewer who downloaded The Suburbs in the last 24 hours.
This comes as good news for some music fans who might have worried that the indie rock had got too popular in recent years. After all, compared to the other Album of the Year nominees -- Eminem, Lady Antebellum, Lady Gaga and Katy Parry -- Arcade Fire are still an underground act.
