Published May 29, 2012Only time will tell if White Lung's sophomore effort Sorry will take the top spot in our year-end punk list the way their debut disc It's the Evil did in 2010, but the Vancouver troupe's fast and furious follow-up is certainly going to be a contender. Full of concentrated blasts of punk adrenaline, the 19-minute album comes out today (May 29) through Deranged, and you can stream the whole thing now on Exclaim.ca.
From previously revealed opener "Take the Mirror" to the vitriol-spewing thrasher "Thick Lip," the collection steamrolls through speakers via Mish Way's cigarette-grizzled growl, Kenny McCorkell's frantic fretboard-exploring guitar lines, and the bludgeoning rhythm section explosions of drummer Anne-Marie Vassiliou and bassist Grady Mackintosh. Despite the full-steam-ahead attack of Sorry, though, Way does occasionally temper those throaty tirades with measured melodic vocals on "Bad Way" and "Bag."
"I worked really hard on melody on this record," Way had previously told Exclaim! of her extra range. "It's unforgiving but it's melodic."
As noted, White Lung will head out on tour in support of Sorry next month, and you can check out their tour dates here.
