When Tigers Fight Death Songs

When Tigers Fight Death Songs
Much like a sequel to a summer blockbuster, a band's new album best be an improvement in all regards, lest it be relegated to bargain bins and wistful thoughts of "what if?" When Tigers Fight's "cast" includes members of Damnation A.D., Another Victim and more, further raising the bar set for Death Songs, their second full-length. Not only do they manage to improve upon 2006's Ghost Story by adding a more metallic edge and increased energy, they've put out an album that can measure up to this year's already impressive collection of hardcore releases. "Never Want to Hear Your Voice" opens with a bang, although it isn't exactly reflective of the rest of the release. Most of Death Songs chooses groove over gallop, polished with a melodic edge not found on the opener. It's an interesting formula that proves successful, as expected given the members' résumés, begging for another sequel, preferably sooner this time around. (Closed Casket Activities)
