It's sure been a big week for soundtrack announcements. The tracklisting for the next Twilight flick New Moon was announced Monday (September 21), and now music and movie nerds alike have the soundtrack line-up for Wes Anderson's hugely anticipated animated film, Fantastic Mr. Fox.
And, like the soundtracks to his previous movies (which include The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore and the Darjeeling Unlimited), the music featured in Anderson's take on the Roald Dahl book is a mixture of fun, obscurities and spot-on classic rock. This time around, the more lesser-known artists come by way of Nancy Adams and Georges Delerue, while the spot-on classic rock includes the Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones (and, let's face it, it's tough to get more spot-on than that). Also, as previously reported, Jarvis Cocker contributes his "little hoedown number," "Fantastic Mr. Fox, AKA Petey's Song," which serves as the film's theme song.
And since Anderson's usual right-hand soundtrack man Mark Mothersbaugh is all busy with Devo again, this time Anderson has tapped award-winning composer Alexandre Desplat to do the more orchestral, instrumental tunes. Strangely enough, Desplat also composed the score to New Moon. Make of that what you will.
