Weights and Measures

Tonight, the Lower Abdominals

BY James KeastPublished Aug 1, 2001

With Ottawa-based instrumental rockers Weights and Measures, it takes longer to cover their bio than it does to listen to their new EP, Tonight, the Lower Abdominals. Both drummer Jeremy Gara and bassist Samir Khan toil in slower, more structured post-rock group Kepler, and are the rhythm section for Wooden Star Mike Feuerstack's Snailhouse project. Filled out by guitarist Kevin Jagernauth, W & M has launched this intense and short EP of aggressive angular rock and excellent song titles (which include "My God Can Beat Up Your God" and "The Overstimulated Drummer Is Always Given to Hyperbole"). It's an efficient and occasionally mind-blowing little treat, but they almost should have just put it on the CD twice - because after only 15 minutes, you're just gonna get up and put it on again.
