Weezer Looking to Record New Album in November, Stick to Colour Scheme

While the stench of the Red Album still hangs thick in the air, Weezer are already getting set for its follow-up. While talking with Billboard, the band’s man behind the kit, Pat Wilson, revealed the Weez will start recording a new album in early November.

"A week after we get off tour, we're gonna be in the studio with Jacknife [Lee] again," Wilson said of the group’s new album and the producer who did two songs on their last. "We send him stuff that we've got, ideas that we have, whether it's a whole song or a killer riff we can build around or something. It's all going to him right now."

Wilson says part of the reason the band are getting back to it so quickly is because now, like on the Red Album, all four members are writing for Weezer, not just their mustachioed front-man Rivers Cuomo. "It just seemed like that was the healthy way to keep everything feeling fresh. After 15 years of doing it the other way, it just felt like it was time,” Wilson explained. "Now that we've got more writers, we don't have to wait for Rivers to have a bunch of songs he's happy with. We used to take forever to make a record, then tour on it forever and be burnt out and not do anything for two years. This is a lot better."

And if you are wondering whether Weezer will continue with the colour theme, all signs are pointing to yes. "If I had my way, we would just use colors from now on, then we wouldn't have to think about titles. We must've had a hundred titles for the Red Album, and none of them felt right so we just gave up and said, 'Okay, let's just make a color.'"

Before all this recording takes place, though, Weezer have a tour to finish. Next week they will begin their trek across North America with Canucks Tokyo Police Club and post-Blink-182 project Angels & Airwaves, all of whom will stop by both Toronto and Vancouver, along with several U.S. cities.
