Weezer are currently gearing up for their eighth LP, Hurley, which is due out on September 14. Given the dubious reception their last few albums have received, however, many old-time fans are probably more excited about the upcoming reissue of the band's 1996 classic, Pinkerton. Now, guitarist Brian Bell has confirmed that the re-release will be coming soon, and stated that the band might even be heading out on a Pinkerton tour.
Bell revealed the news during a backstage interview at the Mile High Music Festival (see the embedded video below). He said, "[Weezer] have a reissue of Pinkerton coming out with new packaging, and - I'm praying - a Pinkerton tour, where we'll play all the songs off Pinkerton, soon."
According to an Amazon listing, the album will be out on October 5.
This represents a major change of heart for frontman Rivers Cuomo, who previously claimed to hate Pinkerton and refused to play the songs live.
Bell added, "We also have a rarities album of unreleased tracks called Death to False Metal." He didn't mention a release date, but it looks like this long-rumoured compilation might finally be happening.
Thanks to Alt Press for the heads-up.
