Live at Montreaux, 1976

Weather Report’s translation of Miles Davis’s electric epiphany produced some of the best and most influential electric jazz ever recorded. The combination of analog keyboards and effects, electric bass, sax and percussion bridged prog, jazz, electro acoustic and world music with inspiration and ease. This DVD brings the seminal quartet of Zawinul, Shorter, Acuna, Badrena and Pastorious to the stage in a fire breathing set that provides an astonishing document of a band in their prime. The performance predates the Downbeat poll winning Heavy Weather recording, which established Weather Report’s presence in the mainstream. The excitement and joy are palpable as Badrena and Acuna push the wall of percussion to the breaking point, Pastorius’s bass lines snake around Zawinul’s keyboard washes and Shorter’s commentary is sparse yet authoritative. It’s the full concert, the camera is everywhere, the sound is great and the performance are exceptional. This is highly recommended
