Waxwing

Intervention: Collection+Remix

BY Stuart GreenPublished Jun 1, 2002

With the notable exceptions of the Juliana Theory and the Casket Lottery, Waxwing is perhaps the best of the swirling, epic, emo-tinged post-punk class. Their two previous full-length recordings have been things of beauty - music that joyfully busts through conventions and accepted norms. This collection harvests three tracks from their debut seven-inch and a few hard to find gems as well as some gritty live recordings and a couple of unlikely and surprisingly reverent covers (U2's "New Year's Day" and Prince's "When Doves Cry"). Not strictly for completist fans, this disc is also essential listening for anyone who likes their music with some depth and imagination.
