Published Jun 26, 2014Canadian songwriter Wax Mannequin is preparing to release a handful of stand-alone tracks on his upcoming tour, but this isn't your average singles series, since only one solitary copy of each single will be available.
The songs will be stored on memory drives that have been embedded inside of 10 hand-crafted scented candles. While this isn't the first time that Wax Mannequin has sold music inside of candles, what's unique here is that each one is exclusively one-of-a-kind. Not even the songwriter will retain a copy of the recording, so it's up to the discretion of the buyer whether to share it online, listen to it privately, or keep it embedded in the candle.
In a Facebook post, Wax Mannequin described the recordings as being "mostly finished" original tunes recorded with "bargain basement fidelity." These same songs will not appear on future albums.
In related news, the songwriter has been working on a new LP with producer James Chapple. He had originally intended it to be finished by this summer, but the collection is still in-progress. He described it as "a thing that lifts us out of comfort zones and shakes us in our centre parts," and promised to debut new songs on the road.
