Arcade Fire's Will Butler is due to release his sophomore solo record Generations next month, and now, ahead of its release, he has shared another cut from the album.

His latest release, "Close My Eyes," comes with a new self-directed video that sees Butler rowing mightily along a calm body of water in a boat built by his grandfather. The song itself features powerful contributions from his backing band comprising Miles Francis, Sara Dobbs, and Julie and Jenny Shore.

In a press release, Butler explained his approach to writing the track:

I tried to make the lyrics a straightforward and honest description of an emotion I feel often — a drive for change coupled with despair: "I'm tired of waiting for a better day. But I'm scared and I'm lazy and nothing's gonna change." Kind of a sad song. Trying to tap into some Smokey Robinson/Motown feeling — "I've got to dance to keep from crying."

Generations is set to arrive on September 25 through Merge Records. It is currently available for pre-order.

"Close My Eyes" follows the release of the album's lead single "Surrender."
