Watch Weaves Cover Arcade Fire's "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)"

A common thread between both Weaves and Arcade Fire is the praise their respective debut albums have garnered from listeners and tastemakers alike. Now, the fast-rising Toronto outfit have reworked one of the iconic Canadian group's songs from their 2004 debut Funeral.

Weaves have offered up their own interpretation of Arcade Fire's "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" as part of the SiriusXM Polaris Cover Session series. You can watch the in-studio performance in the player below.

"I guess I immediately gravitated towards wanting to cover one of [Arcade Fire's] songs because I grew up listening to them — seeing them for the first time just opened the gates as far as live music for me," Weaves' Jasmyn Burke said in a statement. "I think 'Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out)' seems more pertinent than ever, so in typical Weaves fashion we spent a weekend working on it and then just went into the studio and recorded it pretty freely. I think this song keeps breathing and growing over time and I guess that's the magic of revisiting one's favourite albums."

Weaves' cover is the first of three cover sessions to be released in this year's series, which finds past Polaris nominees reworking songs from albums that have received the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize.

All three sessions will be pressed on a limited 10-inch vinyl record that will be free to those who purchase 2018 Polaris-nominated albums at participating retail stores in July. The nominees have yet to be revealed, however.

As previously reported, Weaves are out on a Canadian tour in support of last year's Wide Open, and you can see all the upcoming dates here.
