Watch the First North American Performance from the Ronnie James Dio Hologram

Way back in 2010, metal legend Ronnie James Dio passed away at the age of 67. Some seven years later, rock'n'roll scientists have finally perfected a Dio hologram.

After an appearance at the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany last year, the futuristic Dio made his (its?) North American debut at Los Angeles's Pollstar Awards last night (February 2). The reanimated singer was designed by Eyellusion and fronts a band called Dio Disciples.

The Dio hologram was created with the blessing of Dio's widow and estate manager Wendy. "When I first experienced the full production of Ronnie performing with his band as a hologram, I couldn't believe my eyes and ears," she said. "We have been able to get Ronnie back up on stage where he belongs, ensuring that his music and memory live on."

Dio Disciples are expected to bring their futuristic frontman on a tour later this year. Until then, watch them perform at the Pollstar Awards below [via Blabbermouth].
