This year, the Polaris Music Prize is happening a little differently. After cancelling the award's annual gala due to the ongoing pandemic, this year's winner will be announced tonight through a "special cinematic tribute." So if you want to see who takes home the big prize, watch along below.

The online event is being hosted by CBC Music's Angeline Tetteh-Wayoe, and it will all kick off at 8 p.m. ET tonight. The 2020 Polaris-winning album will be revealed live at the end of this event at approximately 9:20 p.m.

As always, the Polaris Music Prize is awarded to the artist who creates the Canadian album of the year, "judged solely on artistic merit, without consideration for genre or record sales" by a panel of music journalists and industry figures. The grand prize is $50,000, while the other shortlist contenders will receive prizes of $3,000 each.

Among the artists up for the award are Backxwash, Caribou, Kaytranada, Junia-T, Pantayo, U.S. Girls and more. You can see the full shortlist list below, where you can also tune into the event.
