Pronounced with a soft "ch," naturally

We've all experienced the phenomenon where you repeat a word so many times that it seems to lose all meaning. That explains how Said the Whale singer-guitarist Tyler Bancroft forgot the meaning and pronunciation of the word "chord" — a relatable brain fart that has gone viral on TikTok.

In a video posted earlier this week, Bancroft is shown laughing with confusion after the word "chord" showed up in Wordle. "I've never heard the word 'chord' in my life," he says, using a soft "ch" sound.

His partner, who is filming, tells him to Google the word — and the answer causes Bancroft to collapse with laughter. When asked if he's being serious, he admits, "Yes, I was 100 percent serious." As of this writing, the video has been viewed 676,600 times in the past two days.

Reached for comment, Bancroft confirmed that the video is "too real." He told Exclaim!, "I think I was just so focused on the '-ord' ending and had repeated that sound in my head so many times." He added, "I'm the 'soft-ch chord guy' now."

Watch the very funny video below. Said the Whale released their B-Sides + Rarities album earlier this fall and recently announced a show with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
