Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the Toronto Raptors and the Golden State Warriors took place last night (June 5) in Oakland, and fans were welcomed with an unexpected performance of the American anthem by none other than Metallica.
Frontman James Hetfield and guitarist Kirk Hammett performed an electric guitar instrumental the "The Star-Spangled Banner," and even though their bandmate and drummer Lars Ulrich didn't perform, he was at the game watching intently.
Thankfully, Hetfield and Hammett's performance with slightly more tolerable than this recent mash-up.
Watch Hetfield and Hammett's performance below, and check out some photos from the evening.
Tomorrow night's (June 7) game in Oakland will be opened with national anthems sung by Walk Off the Earth and Ne-Yo.

James & Kirk had the honor of kicking off Game 3 tonight by performing the National Anthem at Oracle Arena before the @warriors & @raptors tipped off. Thanks to the @nba & the Golden State Warriors - we had a blast crashing your party! Go Dubs! #NBAFinals
