While Deftones treated thousands of Icelandic fans to the sounds of Gore and more at this weekend's Secret Solstice festival, singer Chino Moreno also staged a uniquely intimate performance within one of the country's volcanoes.
Held within the Iceland's Thrihnukagigur crater, the event was billed by promoters as "the world's first public gig inside a volcano." According to a BBC report, entry into the volcano was 250,000 Icelandic krona (roughly $2,615 CDN). The show found Moreno playing a three-song acoustic set for 20 paying attendees, 400 feet down the shaft of Thrihnukagigur. The night began, however, with a performance from Icelandic singer Snorri Helgason.
Moreno strummed out a Morrissey song, Deftones' White Pony single "Change (In the House of Flies)" and a song from David Bowie's Blackstar release. Moreno reportedly said that he was "a little nervous" about performing.
