Published Apr 05, 2011Remember last year when 30 Rock did that live episode? It was exciting stuff, offering the spontaneity of a live performance combined with the off-chance that the actors could totally screw up and blow the whole thing. Well, this is kind of like the music video equivalent of that.
As you may have already heard, today (April 5) at 7 p.m. EST (4 p.m. PST), Death Cab for Cutie will roll out a video for new single "You Are a Tourist." The twist is that, unlike any music video we've ever seen before, this one will be filmed and broadcast live. And this doesn't mean that it will be a straightforward live performance, since a press release promises that it's going to be scripted. As for the director, it features Tim Nackashi, who has previously worked with TV on the Radio, Gnarls Barkley, Elvis Costello and Radiohead.
When the "You Are a Tourist" video goes live, you can watch it here at Exclaim.ca. Just check back to this page at 7 p.m. EST (4 p.m. PST) tonight, and it will be streaming below.
To build your anticipation for the big event, watch teaser videos over at the band's YouTube channel. Also be sure to read up on Death Cab's forthcoming LP Codes and Keys, which is due out on May 31 via Atlantic. It will come alongside a live DVD and besupported by a tour.
