Published Nov 23, 2014Tonight (November 23), the 2014 edition of the American Music Awards brought plenty of starpower to ABC. In addition to some fairly meaningless awards being handed out, the evening was all about the big-name performances.
Highlights included Charli XCX, who powered through her hit "Boom Clap" alongside newer songs like "Sucker" and "Break the Rules," and Lorde, who offered her Hunger Games hit "Yellow Flicker Beat."
Lil Wayne and Christina Milian failed to capture much buzz for "Start a Fire," the lead single from the former's forthcoming Tha Carter V, while his labelmate Nicki Minaj had a little more luck with her Skylar Grey-assisted "Bed of Lies."
Minaj was also on hand to join Jessie J and Ariana Grande for their explosive "Bang Bang" hit, while Grande also offered up a performance of "Problem," "Break Free" and "Love Me Harder."
Other performances included Sam Smith featuring A$AP Rocky, and plenty of different appearances from Iggy Azalea. Fergie joined YG, One Direction performed in some fake bushes and Taylor Swift offered a theatrical performance of "Blank Space."
