This summer, Sun Ra Arkestra were scheduled to perform at Calgary's Sled Island music festival. Of course, COVID-19 had other plans, and the fest was cancelled, but the Arkestra has still made a powerful Calgary connection thanks to their new music video, which was animated by Chad VanGaalen.
The song is called "Seductive Fantasy," and VanGaalen has certainly stepped up to its title by offering some mesmerizing and tripped-out visuals.
"Seductive Fantasy" was initially recorded for the 1979 album On Jupiter. The version in the video was recorded this year and arrives ahead of a new Sun Ra album that's due later this year.
While we don't know the details just yet, the next Sun Ra Arkestra album will arrive in October via Strut. It will mark the first new material from the band since 1999's A Song for the Sun.
