Published Dec 26, 2013On April 10, 2014, influential Washington rock troupe Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. To commemorate the historic event, a small city in Washington has declared April 10 to be Nirvana Day.
Hoquiam, WA, a neighbouring city to Cobain's birthplace in Aberdeen, WA, has declared that April 10 will be Nirvana Day. Though he wasn't born there, Cobain did briefly live in Hoquiam.
According to local radio station KXRO, Hoquiam Mayor Jack Durney described a desire to preserve Nirvana's legacy in the community.
"They bring great honour, I think as I say, to our entire community," he said. "And I think that it's good Kurt Cobain lived in Hoquiam for a little while, but he and Krist Novoselic are part of our community, and I think it's good to honour our sons and their great accomplishments."
