Warp Signs Shangaan Electro Figure Nozinja

Warp Records is extending its global reach, having just announced that it has added South African Shangaan electro figure Nozinja to its roster.

A press release explains that the label's latest act is a central figure to the Shangaan electro sound, described as "a 21st century reboot of local folk tradition, Tsonga disco, kwaito and South African house." Following a series of CD-Rs and cassettes, the producer's 2010 Shangaan Electro: New Wave Dance Music from South Africa compilation brought attention to the fusion-based sound, as did a series of dance craze-starting YouTube clips.

A series of 12-inches featuring Nozinja's production work and remixes from Theo Parrish, Rashad & Spinn, Ricardo Villalobos and Hype Williams were collected on Honest Jon's in 2012 as Shangaan Shake, while Dan Snaith's Jiaolong label released a pair of tracks for Nozinja in 2013.

Plans for upcoming Nozinja releases have yet to be revealed, but the producer will be unveiling new material on an upcoming spring tour of Europe. You can see his tour schedule here.
