Obligations to the Odd

BY Patrick LejtenyiPublished Mar 1, 2001

There is a loud and angry sound coming out of Sweden these days, and riding the crest of youth ennui is VOAG. These simple, melodic, anthemic, sing-along chanters blast through 14 tracks of sweat-soaked mosh pit fare. There's real rage and fury here, which, if played loud enough, can be felt rumbling through your innards, courtesy of a heavy use of floor toms, strong bass lines and spewed vocals. It's no surprise Epitaph is distributing this five-piece stateside - the Rancid influence, in lyrics and vocals - is glaringly obvious. VOAG can pull it off and cover the standard targets for oi punk frustration: youth apathy, American corruption, heavy drinking and the like.
