Vintersorg

Visions from the Spiral Generator

BY Laura TaylorPublished Nov 1, 2002

The album's looping intro gives you a pretty good idea of the lyrical direction Vintersorg has taken on this new release, exploring science and philosophy more than the wonders of nature. Although Vintersorg's sound hasn't changed drastically since Cosmic Genesis, Visions from the Spiral Generator seems more restrained and calculated, lacking some of the band's earlier emotional depth. Perhaps the colder intellectual approach to the lyrics carried over into the songwriting as well. Without any tracks that captivate you at first listen, Visions from the Spiral Generator takes awhile to sink in before it starts to make an impact. But if you have the patience, and especially if you're already a Vintersorg fan, it's definitely worth giving a try.
