The Vines Emerge with New Future Primitive LP

Remember, at the beginning of last decade, when the "the" bands were being heralded as the saviours of rock'n'roll? It didn't really work out that way, but we still have fond memories of cranking the radio every time the White Stripes or the Hives came on (and we're looking forward to that new Strokes album).

This April, Aussie garage rockers the Vines will be trying to recapture some of that old glory and return with the new LP Future Primitive. You might not have thought about these guys much since "Get Free" was tearing up the airwaves back in 2002, but this is actually their fifth album, and their first since 2008's Melodia.

Undercover reports that the album was recorded with producer Chris Colonna in Paris. It has been sitting on the backburner for almost a year, as the sessions took place way back in February and March of 2010.

We don't have a tracklist or firm release date yet, but you can get a taste of the album in the form of the first single, "Gimme Love." It's a brash rocker, steeped in '60s garage sensibilities -- just what you would expect from a "the" band. Listen below.
