Cape Breton folk rockers Villages' new album Dark Island is out today via Sonic Records, and they've mapped out an extensive tour of the East Coast and Ontario in support of the effort.
The quartet formed by Matt Ellis, Travis Ellis, Jon Pearo and Archie Rankin teamed up with producer Joshua Van Tassel at Joel Plaskett's Fang Recording to record Dark Island live off the floor over the course of eight days. The resulting Celtic-inspired effort finds the band paying homage to their natural surroundings, reaching back toward their roots and leaning into their Atlantic folk influences.
A tour in support of the record commences at Miramichi, NB's New Maritime Beer Company on March 2, after which the band will travel through the Maritime provinces, making stops in Moncton, Fredericton, Halifax and Berwick early in the month.
From there, they'll head west to Ontario, plotting shows at London's Rosewood Room, Hamilton's Mills Hardware, Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern and Ottawa's Rainbow Bistro from the 22nd to the 25th. The final stop on tour will take place nearly a month later (April 22) at Charlottetown's Trailside Music Hall.
