Vetiver Sign to Sub Pop, Ready New Album

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Jan 12, 2009

Following a recent road trip with the Black Crowes, San Francisco-based folkies Vetiver have lined up a new album on a new label. Sub Pop has announced it's scooped up the Andy Cabic-led project and plans to release the group's fourth album proper, Tight Knit, on February 17.

Recorded in L.A. and Sacramento, the album was produced by long-time Vetiver collaborator Thom Monahan (who's also been behind records by the Pernice Brothers, Little Joy and Devendra Banhart) and promises "more immediate gratification than on past Vetiver releases," according to Sub Pop. And being the loosed-based collective they are, Vetiver have also lined up several guest stars for this record, including the Shins' Eric Johnson, Jonathan Wilson, "Farmer" Dave Scher and Adam Peters. (Sorry, it appears there's no Devendra on this one.)

So far Vetiver have only lined up a short string of European tour dates but several North American stops are also expected to later this year.

Here are the tracks on Tight Knit, followed by the Vetiver tour dates confirmed so far:

1. "Rolling Sea"
2. "Sister"
