Providence, RI straightedge hardcore heavyweights Verse have announced that they're calling it quits. The band were around for six years, and released three albums and an EP on Rivalry Records and Bridge 9, the most recent of which was last year's Aggression.
In a post on their MySpace blog, singer Sean Murphy said, "This has been one of the most important things in our lives for quite a while now. While it's sad to see it come to an end, we're all glad we can look back on some great experiences we have had, and wonderful people we have met throughout the years."
There's no reason given but some think it may be related to bassist Chris Berg "breaking edge" last fall. In a post to the Bridge 9 message boards, Berg admitted that he was no longer straight edge, and therefore neither was Verse, but then insisted that the band would "keep touring, writing records, and playing as much as we can."
Whether or not that's the case, the band might avoid a last show completely, saying, "sometimes that can come off the wrong way, and none of us want that. If we can do it right, we will do it."
