Venetian Snares Returns with 'My Love Is a Bulldozer'
Following a few EP releases, Winnipeg-based electronic music renegade Venetian Snares (a.k.a. Aaron Funk) is getting ready to deliver his first full-length in close to four years: My Love Is a Bulldozer.

Due June 16 through longtime label Planet Mu, the full-length is Funk's first since 2010's My So-Called Life, though more recent efforts include the Fool the Detector and Cubist Reggae EPs.

According to press materials, the 12-song set weighs in with "sometimes thunderous yet complex drum programming with delicate musical structures," with "atmospheric jazziness," "autumnal strings" and the sound of Funk's own voice featured throughout the album.

A medieval vibe is apparently threaded into "1000 Years Play," on which Funk sings atop cut-up drum work, while the title track features "gothic, self-deprecating vocals and dark synth melodies." Elsewhere, "Deleted Poems" uses strings and flamenco guitar to evoke "empty desolation," and "10th Circle of Winnipeg" uses "crashing breaks" and a jazz singer.

You can hear samples from the set over here.

Venetian Snares also has a series of global dates coming up in the near future, with one Canadian date booked July 1 at Vancouver's Fortune Sound Club. You'll find all the concert info beneath the tracklisting for My Love Is a Bulldozer.
