Various Unbound Project Volume I

Given the task to meditate on the meaning of freedom for their original contribution to this compilation, which will benefit the defence of political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal, the artists concerned delivered excellent results. Conceptually, the album works because it encourages variety and mental stimulation in what can often be a well-meaning yet constricting artistic situation. Blackalicious tackle the issue from an internal aspect on "Soul In Flesh," while Aceyalone brings engaging social critique on "Ms. AmeriKKKa" and the historical perspective of slavery informs Ursula Rucker's "Soon." Other solid contributions from Saul Williams, Reflection Eternal and an all-star cast on "Mumia 911" ensure the message by this obviously carefully selected collection of artists is successfully conveyed.
