Although Steve Caballero is primarily known as a skate pioneer, he’s also performed in various Southern California bands spanning over a 20-year period. Bandology Volume One showcases the four main groups that he has played in from 1982 to 1996 — the Faction, Odd Man Out, Shovelhead, and Soda. Naturally, Caballero’s first band, the Faction, was essentially a straight-ahead JFA/Aggression inspired skate-rock. Whereas the progression into his next band, Odd Man Out, possessed a true goth rock feel similar to early Cult or the Mission. Unfortunately, by the beginning of the ’90s, his new band Shovelhead was performing flaccid pseudo-grunge. Thankfully, in 1995 he joined Soda, a female-fronted melodic punk band, redeeming his musical abilities somewhat. Definitely not an essential release, but one that’ll probably be appreciated by any hardcore skate historian.
