John Kong’s Do Right! label follows up an excellent soul Keb Darge compilation and the dance floor nuggets on the On the Right Track collection with a release showcasing "Toronto exclusives” that bridge jazz funk, soulful house, broken beat and hip-hop excursions. Despite the breadth of music selected, the one common factor is the top quality on hand; unlike many compilations there’s hardly any filler. Circle Research, who are slated to release an album imminently on Do Right!, whet the appetite connecting with the dope verbals of Tara Chase, Yushin & Aceiks on the multilingual "Bridging The Gap,” while the soul shuffle of "What Matters #2” previews Ivana Santilli’s long-awaited sophomore album. On the house front Nick Holder’s "On My Mind” with diva Sacha is a definite standout, while Kong himself connects with Moonstarr on the meticulously constructed "Future Vision.” This collection of largely previously unreleased material is proof positive that the peerless compilations Do Right! has been issuing are no fluke and that this is just a warning shot from the featured artists about what to expect in the future.
