Punk’s Not Dead: A Tribute to the Exploited

BY Shawn MerrillPublished Aug 1, 1999

Even though the Exploited, Scotland’s kings of punk had a significant impact upon the entire UK and American punk/hardcore scenes, the majority of their music was generally generic, boring crap. With the exception of Troops of Tomorrow, the Exploited really didn’t release any noteworthy albums. However, since there’s a sea of tribute CDs in stores today, the Exploited tribute is inevitable. Unfortunately, instead of going for some creativity on this tribute, all of the bands have decided to sound exactly like the Exploited, which makes for a rather boring listen. One doesn’t have to hear this tribute to know that Blanks 77, the Bruisers, US Chaos, Violent Society, and Billy Club can cover Exploited songs chord for chord, word for word.
