Various The Power of Music

Once again, the fine folks of Ajax, Ontario’s Underground Operations are putting their evil genius to work for the forces of positive change and their resources where their principles are. Their latest compilation is a two-disc, 40-track offering that is promoting and benefiting the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty, an activist organisation that protests social injustice in the province. This particular compilation is not only dedicated to a good cause, it features a virtual who’s who of the Canadian punk scene. Any band that’s worth anything is here: Choke, Moneen, Belvedere, the Weakerthans, as well as every member of the UO family like Hostage Life, Protest the Hero and Bombs Over Providence (who offer up a great unreleased track that has me drooling in anticipation of their upcoming full-length release). Not everyone is offering up something new but between the cause and the convenient one-stop shopping sampler of Canadian punk, you can’t go wrong. (Underground Operations)
