Various NO-FI Presents 100% Solid Gold Hits

In an age of excellent community-based compilations the No-Fis trump everybody with this cohesive document of how the underbelly of Guelph’s music community lives. The fact that Evan Gordon engineered virtually every track here partially explains its seamless flow and unhinged, new rock’n’soul sound. Though diverse, many of the contributors share Gordon’s vision of scrappy proficiency and raw emotion. Asterisk Autoharp presents the dark pop of "Luck,” while the Murkies are all heart with "Scar.” Jessy Bell-Smith’s great talent is finally bolstered by an awesome soul band on highlight "Kiss and Tell,” while some of the same suspects make the Magic’s "Downtown Line” sparkle with a unique groove. The Sad Clowns get their fingers sticky on "Out of the Mud,” the seldom seen Sprayers are forceful on "Motorbones” and guitarist Jordan Howard’s unique voice comes to the forefront on "Funny Farm.” The No-Fis are firing on all cylinders right now and Solid Gold Hits is aptly named.
