Liberation, Songs to Benefit Peta

BY Shawn MerrillPublished Aug 1, 2003

It’s odd that the Fat Mike who wrote "Vegetarian Mumbo Jumbo” and "Shut Up Already” about animal rights activists shutting the hell up, has decided to release a benefit compilation for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Furthermore, it’s difficult to say if this is a Fat Mike joke, a tax write-off, or if he’s changed his way of life after all these years? Regardless, it’s a bit of an anomaly, and it’s kind of surprising to see the artists involved in this project: Hot Water Music, the Faint, Anti-Flag, Good Riddance, Good Charlotte, Propagandhi, NOFX, Goldfinger, Midtown, Frenzal Rhomb, and six others. Although the effort is commendable, ethics can be manipulated to be self-serving. And in this case only one side of the coin is being presented and without all the valid facts or scientific data to back the propaganda gracing the insides of the CD booklet. This one is best left to one’s own personal politics, and not for bandwagoneer’s.
