Kill Rock Stars Video Fanzine III

BY Star DTPublished Sep 1, 2005

It has been five years since the last KRS Video Fanzine, which was on old time-y VHS, but it's still a great idea. Acting as equal parts label/community sampler and showcase for current music and video projects, video fanzines are a great resource for new fans of the label, as well as a treat for long-time roster lovers. On III, artists like Sleater-Kinney, Deerhoof and filmmaker Sadie Shaw are present from past releases, as well as newbies like Xiu Xiu and Amps For Christ. Fans will undoubtedly find that although they scooped up the DVD to see, say, Beth Ditto belt it out in the live Gossip footage, they love the sweet, simple sound of Quix*o*tic's live clip or Juliana Luecking's bizarre "Some People I Know #2 Truth" short. Highlights include the trench warfare-themed Decemberists video for "The Soldiering Life," Gravy Train!!!!'s Karaoke sing-along to "Ghost Boobs," the crazy pastiche of xbxrx live in San Francisco, Deerhoof's amazing "Dog on the Sidewalk" video and a hell of a lot more.
