hOMe for the Holidays

BY Cheryl ThompsonPublished Dec 1, 2003

Have a merry funky Christmas! You’ve probably never heard that said before but with the release of hOMe for the Holidays that’s exactly what you’ll think. This CD is a great complement to any Christmas collection as its energy is stunningly refreshing and new. But equally inspiring to the ear are the beats, rhythms and arrangements in hOme for the Holidays as it can highlight any Christmas evening as easily as it will any evening throughout the rest of the year. There are some essential Christmas songs on the album performed by OM Records’ international artists, like Sutro Heights’s "Winter Wonderland,” King Kooba’s "O Christmas Tree” and Colossus’s "Charlie Brown Cut Up,” which is a broken beat remix of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” Who would have thought such Christmas standards as "Winter Wonderland” and "What Child Is This” performed by the Pleasant Grove Minstrels could get funked up? One track that will just jump out at you is Casey Nefey’s blending of "The Nutcraker” to "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” on "Christmas Eve” — it is really funky! OM Records have assembled a beautiful collection for the season and have simultaneously brought Christmas recordings into the new millennium.
