Estuary English

Celebrating its 25th release, the five-year-old Memphis Industries label has compiled a record of past, present and future tracks to represent their superb taste in beat-heavy pop music. Based in Southeast London, Memphis Industries is a company that thrives on delivering timeless independent music. The ten artists that deliver the 17 tracks are all relative unknowns, but the gems to discover on Estuary English are endless. The Go! Team christen the comp with a blindingly sunny track that blends the classic Motown sound with some hip-hop kicks. J. Xaverre (former drummer for UK indie darlings Kenickie) utilises his lo-fi experiments to create flavourful and dreamy acoustica. The one act that may be familiar to some is Blue States, whose "Season Song” blew most minds that heard it last year. Their two submissions here, taken from older releases, add a real dazzle to the roster, most notably the achingly beautiful "What We’ve Won” (from last year’s Man Mountain). Memphis Industries knows exactly what we want and have delivered it plus more in a nice and neat, little package.
