Edmonton Artist Collection 2002

BY Brent HagermanPublished Feb 1, 2003

Six Edmonton artists have contributed two tracks each to this SD Records project in order to highlight the wealth of creatively coming out of their town. Joe Bird (Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie), using any excuse to break into a falsetto voice, adds "Ramona" and "Mona Lisa" to the record with his band Grrr. Chris Wynters (Captain Tractor) has an impending solo album and gives us a taste of that with his stripped down offerings. Other artists include Newfoundland via Edmonton's Already Gone, Leona Burkey, bassist and surprisingly good songwriter Jon Nordstrom, and Ben Sures, whose live take on "Why Don't You Call?," with its slow and gritty tremolo guitar and pleading vocals is the album's high point.
