Various Earache My Eye
Realising the new world of "core” music — metalcore, hardcore, noisecore — is becoming increasingly difficult for old schoolers to relate to, Earache steps into the vault, re-releasing videos from their salad days to make us longhorns all teary-eyed. Well, if one can get nostalgic for the likes of Godflesh, Entombed, Pitchshifter and Fudge Tunnel. A compilation of 13 pre-millennial bands’ favoured videos, 1989’s Earache My Eye, with its cunning Cheech & Chong reference, finally sees a DVD release and does unearth some true gems of decades gone by. Thanks to "Wolverine Blues,” "Greed Killing,” At The Gates’ "Blinded By Fear” and Sleep’s "Dragonaut,” all bases in the previously noted core scenes are covered extraordinarily well. Furthermore, it proves there was a time when bands of this ilk were diverse and heavy at the same time, as opposed to toeing today’s thin black line. (Earache)
