Various Doghouse 100

Worth the low cost if you don’t already own the records most of these tracks have been culled from, this, the 100th release from Toledo-based Doghouse Records, offers an excellent snapshot of the label’s stellar current roster. Kicking things off with an unreleased track from Doghouse’s biggest name, the All-American Rejects, "The Cigarette Song” is arguably the strongest track on the album, with a bouncy acoustic power pop feel mixed with atypical song structure. The remainder of the unreleased material — six tracks total — is slightly more mixed, with Gameface offering us a fairly good explanation of why they recently broke up and Say Anything proving that their unique sound extends beyond their album-only material. The previously released material is as solid as you would expect from Doghouse, but it’s the unheard gems that make this compilation worth picking up. (Doghouse)
