Various Creation Records: International Guardians of Rock 'n' Roll 1983-

It wasn't supposed to happen this way. What should have been a glorious compilation years into the future is now a disappointment. Creation Records was the label of the '80s and early '90s with bands like the Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream and Teenage Fanclub. International Guardians of Rock 'n' Roll contains great tunes, such as Ride's "Drive Blind," Primal Scream's "Loaded," Slowdive's "Slowdive "and Super Furry Animals' "The Man Don't Give A Fuck," but it isn't satisfying enough. With the unfortunate exclusion of My Bloody Valentine (label owner Alan McGee could not get the publishing rights), the complete ignorance of leaving off Saint Etienne's "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" and the inclusion of tracks by such pointless acts as Hurricane #1 and Bernard Butler, this compilation only gives a slight peek into the genius of Creation. Maybe in ten years time, after McGee has lost all his money in his internet record label Poptones, he will put together a more complete compilation truly showing why he was once a brilliant man.
