Various …A Compilation for Reach for the Rainbow

Boasting an exciting list of contributors with rare and unreleased recordings, this is an attractive comp for Canadian indie rock enthusiasts. Though the liner notes make no mention of what Reach for the Rainbow does as a charity, some quick research suggests that it’s a registered charity serving children and young adults with developmental and physical disabilities from across Ontario. It’s an excellent cause, which makes supporting this record an extra sweet affair. The ’Shwa’s Cuff the Duke donate a killer b-side to the comp with "What Are You Laughing At?” while Joel Plaskett Emergency fans get another shot at rarity "Cold Blue Light.” The Rheostatics offer up a robotic version of "Soul Glue,” while Hayden’s "The Show” captures the jauntier aspects of his last record. Tony Dekker’s Great Lake Swimmers submit an intriguing, conceptual look at "Song for the Angels” and Peter Elkas does wonders with a soulful new song called "Wall of Fire.” There are also worthy contributions from the likes of the Five Blank Pages, Howie Beck, Les Cooper, and the Angler’s Arms (Delaware Chapter), among others, making this the most necessary must-have comp of the season.
