The 25th Year In Video

BY Dave SynyardPublished Apr 24, 2008

The 25th Year In VideosSince 1982, Metal Blade Records has been home to some of the heaviest and most gruesome bands in metal, and 2007 marks their 25-year anniversary. This year was an especially good one for the label, as for the first time in their history they had five albums make the Billboard Top 200 and reached the Top Ten list with the help of San Diego’s metalcore Christians As I Lay Dying and their album An Ocean Between Us. Now onto the DVD, which brings all the music videos for the year together. The collection boasts some of the label’s most entertaining artists, featuring Unearth, the Black Dahlia Murder, Job For A Cowboy, the Red Chord and once again, As I Lay Dying, plus a few more. But that’s all you get: just 14 music videos. There aren’t any comments from the bands about Metal Blade or the president of the label talking about the history or future of the business. It’s really just music videos you could have found on-line. For celebrating 25 years, this DVD lacks any kind of celebrating, entertainment or reason to buy. Let’s hope when they release The 50th Year In Videos they try using at least half their ass to give fans something a little more enthralling.
